Most of our clients want to know this before actually buying our products.

Well, here’s a fairly detailed history of our company. We hope that it gives you some reassurances as to who we are and why we are Southern California’s largest manufacturer and installer of vinyl replacement windows, doors, patio covers and residential solar.

Company History

1990 First Choice Building Products started as a 50/50 partnership between brother-in-laws Gary Templin and Wolfgang Wirthgen. Rent 1,500 sq. ft. building in Anaheim, CA.

1991 Signed contract to replace the windows for a high end housing track in Laguna “Pamilla” with retro-fit vinyl replacement windows. Total contracting including options – $1.2 million.

1992 Complete “Palmilla” project. Move to a 5,000 sq. ft. building in Anaheim. Marketing plan to sell and install vinyl replacement windows and doors direct to the public. First manufacturing equipment is purchased.

1993 Vinyl window replacement market sales are slow. Move to sell windows and doors to custom home builders.

1994 Custom home builders’ sales increase. Expand marketing plan to include tract home sales and window replacement dealers. Company name is changed to Win-Dor, Inc.

1995 Sales continue to increase. Move to a larger, 26,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Orange, CA.

1996 Despite increased sales, association with dealers is terminated. WinDor owners adopt new business model which includes complete control and care of WinDor’s customer base and move back to a manufacturer direct philosophy (selling and installing direct to homeowners).

1997 Direct sales to homeowner continue to increase. Home builders and contract sales are halted. Despite the change in direction, sales volume remains high.

1998 Sales increase to $4.5 million. Customers begin to share their experiences and a steady flow of referral business builds.

1999 First satellite showroom opens in Montclair, CA to service the Inland Empire, Riverside and Eastern Los Angeles Counties. Sales increase to $5.3 million.

2000 With the success of the first showroom, a second one is added in Mission Viejo, CA .

2001 A third showroom opens in Seal Beach, CA to service the Coastal Orange County and Southern Los Angeles County markets. Entry doors are introduced to the product line. Sales increase to $12.5 million.

2002 WinDor moves into a 56,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility and factory showroom in Anaheim, CA. Automated manufacturing equipment is brought in to increase productivity and quality consistency of the product line. Sales increase to $17.5 million.

2003 WinDor acquires another 18,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space. Gary Templin and Wolfgang Wirthgen are name Small Business Persons of the Year by Southern Economic Development Corp. Sales increase to $23.7 million.

2004 WinDor opens additional showrooms in Riverside, CA and Torrance, CA to better service the Riverside and Los Angeles Counties respectively. Gary Templin and Wolfgang Wirthgen are named S.B.A. Regional Small Business Persons of the year. Sales increase to $29 million.

2005 WinDor expands its showroom stable to include Escondido, CA to better serve the County of San Diego. WinDor is named 19th in the nation by Qualified Remodeler in their annual Top 500 Remodeling Companies List.

2006 New industry leading door series is released during the 3rd quarter to the public. 2200 series Patio Door, 2300 series French Rail Sliding Door, 2300 series French Swinging Door and 2300 Bi-Fold Door. The new door series defines why WinDor prides itself on quality and industry leading technology. The Montclair showroom is moved to Ontario, CA. WinDor is named 13th in the nation by Replacement Contractor in their annual Top 100 Remodeling Companies. WinDor also moves up to 15th in the nation in Qualified Remodeler’s annual Top 500 Remodeling Companies list.

2007 WinDor continues its showroom model by adding a facility in Miramar, CA to accommodate customers in San Diego County. Wood windows and shutters are added to the product stable become available to the general public. WinDor joins the Direct Buy. WinDor is recognized as number one window and door replacement magazine in Orange County.

2008 WinDor reallocates showrooms to accommodate its ever growing customer base. Los Alamitos showroom opens to replace the Seal Beach store. WinDor introduces AG3 to its product line of vinyl windows and doors to increase energy efficiency. WinDor develops partnership with Metals USA, Inc. and introduces high quality patio covers.
WinDor also introduces WinShield, a specially formulated epoxy balances, and elastomeric based exterior coating for the home to complement its energy efficiency efforts. Construction services are added to help customers with a “one-stop shop” for home remodeling. WinDor is recognized as one of the top window and door manufacturers in the nation for 2008 by Window and Door Magazine in their Top 100 Manufacturers list.
